I’m sure most of you have seen advertisements from the weight loss industry that boasts the statement lose weight fast.  If you take a look around the search engines for help, you are bombarded with promises of incredible weight loss that you’d almost be stupid not to try their product or system.  Here’s a few examples of what I’m talking about with the first sentence in their advertisement: You Can Lose 30 Pounds In 30 Days, or Safely Lose 9 Pounds Every 11 Days!, how about Lose 1 Jean Size Every 7 Days! Lose 18lbs in 4 days.

Those are incredible promises and there are many people out there that really believe that those feats can be accomplished for any person that tries them.  I especially like the one of lose a jean size every 7 days.  So If I were to take that literally,  a woman that is a size 10 and feels that she is over weight would be a 2 in a month. Of course if she keeps going she would be in negative sizes in 2 months.  How about lose 9 pounds safely every 11 days?  In 33 days you would have lost 27 pounds, 66 days 54 pounds, etc.

Anyone that has put on excessive pounds over the years has paused and looked at themselves in the mirror and wanted to do something about it.  A loss of water weight can be expected the first week with what seems like a huge amount of weight lost.  The problem is that people reach a point where weight is just not going to fall off of you that quickly.  Even those that participated in the show “The Biggest Loser” had periods of time when they only lost a pound in a week and that’s with supervised diets and massive exercise plans.

Losing weight takes a total plan and not some drop it fast plan.  You need a regiment of exercise and correct diet.  There needs a plan in place that helps keep you motivated to continue this process.  Remember, it took a long time to put this weight on, so it doesn’t come off overnight.  Take a look at all of these plans and use a bit of caution when selecting.  If it seems to good to be true it probably isn’t.

How to Lose Weight

June 3, 2008 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · 1 Comment

When I thought of this subject it occurred to me that many of us spend an entire lifetime wondering how to lose weight.  We look for quick results with minimal changes to out lifestyle.  The next fad diet book that comes out makes us rush to the book store or website that has it.  I think this may be so that the other books we bought aren’t lonely when we place it on the shelf.  Mine definitely aren’t getting this way since at last count there are thirty of them placed side by side.

From all of those, there is one resounding theme that that’s repeated over and over; you must change what you are currently doing.  You see the weight that you put on and that you’re tired with didn’t just appear there overnight. No, this took some time to pack on your backside and belly so that you finally figured out that you might be overweight.  In order to change that, you need to look at what got you there in the first place.

Having a pizza eating contest where you come in first devouring 6 slices may be a sign.  Looking for the all you can eat buffet for every meal may also be a clue.  Having desert so often that this is the first thing you shop for when you’re in a supermarket might be looking in the right direction.  You see, you can’t lose weight until you change the eating habit you currently have.

Many overweight people say, I don’t eat anything so how can I change that?  A lot of them are correct that they don’t eat a meal or meals when traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner are scheduled.  That is where the problem may lie.  You see if you skip say breakfast, you are changing you metabolism to adjust to no food during the morning hours.  This puts a drain on your body and starts the craving for foods to meet that hunger during different times.  For those individuals, I would say to eat by a clock and you will start to change how your body reacts.

Another group of people eat all day long and say that they can’t go without it.  They are the ones that are marching to the beat of the angle of death.  Gluttony is one of the worst things any human being can do to themselves.  You don’t know where your cues are for eating since you eat all the time and miss them.  You have conditioned yourself to ignore a feeling of satisfied when eating a meal and in return there is no where for the calories you consume to go so they stay on you in storage.  Those that are in this category need to seek professional help, because this is a bad road to be on.

Now here are some tips on how to start a simple weight loss program:

  •  Examine all the food you eat in a week.  Write this down so that you can actually see what it is you are putting in your mouth.  Pay close attention to drinks, snacks, and extra helpings.
  • Eat smaller.  By this I mean you can still eat everything you currently eat, but take a smaller portion.  Don’t go for additional helpings.  Keep meat consumer to be about the size of a pack of cigarettes.   Substitute a salad for bread and try fruit for snacks rather than cake, ice cream, cookies, candies, potato chips, ect.
  • Start to exercise.  This doesn’t have to be a gigantic effort of joining a gym and doing a total body workout.  Walking is the best thing you can do for yourself.  Change one TV program for a walk that last at least 30 minutes.

If you follow those 3 tips, you should start to see some weight come off.  After you start losing, you can up the exercise and look at they types of foods you eat.  But you need to get a small goal first.  Good luck for anyone that tries to reduce the extra calories you have been keeping on you for some time now.
