Dining out can be hard when you are doing the Low Carb Dietlow carb diet, but it is easier than ever to find what you like, and you don’t have to skip dinners out with friends and family if you are worried about finding foods you can eat.

Though it might seem that the low carb diet craze might be over, there are plenty of people who are still trying to lose weight by reducing and sometimes severely restricting the carbs they eat each day. As a result, there are many restaurants that now have low carb menus for those who come in to eat.

Many of the low carb menus you find will list the numbers of carbs in that dish. Some just say low carb, but anyone who is on a diet knows that this is just not enough information. There are other menus as well, some have Weight Watchers meals on their menus, and many other types of diet dishes. These restaurants know that they were losing business because so many are trying to lose weight and they would skip eating out because of it. If they make it easier to find low carb menus, they are more likely to go out. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.

Lose Weight Fast

August 1, 2008 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment

I’m sure most of you have seen advertisements from the weight loss industry that boasts the statement lose weight fast.  If you take a look around the search engines for help, you are bombarded with promises of incredible weight loss that you’d almost be stupid not to try their product or system.  Here’s a few examples of what I’m talking about with the first sentence in their advertisement: You Can Lose 30 Pounds In 30 Days, or Safely Lose 9 Pounds Every 11 Days!, how about Lose 1 Jean Size Every 7 Days! Lose 18lbs in 4 days.

Those are incredible promises and there are many people out there that really believe that those feats can be accomplished for any person that tries them.  I especially like the one of lose a jean size every 7 days.  So If I were to take that literally,  a woman that is a size 10 and feels that she is over weight would be a 2 in a month. Of course if she keeps going she would be in negative sizes in 2 months.  How about lose 9 pounds safely every 11 days?  In 33 days you would have lost 27 pounds, 66 days 54 pounds, etc.

Anyone that has put on excessive pounds over the years has paused and looked at themselves in the mirror and wanted to do something about it.  A loss of water weight can be expected the first week with what seems like a huge amount of weight lost.  The problem is that people reach a point where weight is just not going to fall off of you that quickly.  Even those that participated in the show “The Biggest Loser” had periods of time when they only lost a pound in a week and that’s with supervised diets and massive exercise plans.

Losing weight takes a total plan and not some drop it fast plan.  You need a regiment of exercise and correct diet.  There needs a plan in place that helps keep you motivated to continue this process.  Remember, it took a long time to put this weight on, so it doesn’t come off overnight.  Take a look at all of these plans and use a bit of caution when selecting.  If it seems to good to be true it probably isn’t.

You’re Not a Kid Any More So Stop Eating Like One

May 24, 2008 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · 1 Comment

stuffing his faceThe rate of obese people in the world keeps increasing and childhood obesity is at epidemic proportions and there is little that is being done to stop it.  Adults that grew up their entire life sitting in front of a television and ignoring any type of exercise except for the family gathering on the 4th of July haven’t a clue when it comes to proper nutrition.  Fast food joints pray upon the schedules that we all try to fit in and we’re slowly killing ourselves.

A typical family where both parents work have 2 nights a week where they feed themselves by take-out food. The fare consists of hamburgers (usually from a fast food eatery), pizza, Chinese food, hero sandwiches, hot sandwiches (usually from the same place they got the pizza 2 days ago), fried chicken and or ribs or at least something barbequed.   There is absolutely no regard for calorie intake nor does nutrition even get a mention.  The idea is simple and their thought process is this; I’m hungry, it taste good, I want the taste to continue so I super size it.

Parents from the 40s, 50s and 60s don’t understand the damage they did when they insisted upon children “cleaning their plates” because some child was starving in another country.  I guess this came from the children that went trough the great depression and didn’t know when their next full meal was coming.  So that mentality stayed with the next generation (baby boomers) and the theme continued.  The problem was that most of the families of the 40s, 50s, and 60s didn’t  have the amount nor availability of fast food places that we have now.  Plus there was no flat screen TVs. video games, DVD players and DVR recorders so kids used to play outside and get some exercise.   The amount of calories consumed which we don’t blink an eye about is more than twice the recommended amount needed for daily nutrition.

To stop this cycle of madness, food needs to be treated as reverently as the time we put into our nightly television choices.  Families need to educate themselves and understand the role that nutrition plays in everything in their life.  Lack of or bad nutrition choices leads to an increase in weight which then evolves to poor health.  This costs the nation millions of dollars in increases in healthcare costs and hospitalization.  Time lost on the job effects economy for the lack of production.  The absolute lack of knowledge in this area has the butterfly effect on the world.

You don’t have to die early by contracting fat related diseases like diabetes.  Learn to cook properly.  Try to get a handle on calories and exercise and mostly become aware of what you’re doing to yourself and your family.  You can find out some great information on nutrition at the center for disease control and prevention.   You can make the change if you really want to.
